A snapshot of what's holding my attention this month — what I'm building, learning, and reading. Inspired by nownownow.com.

Building

  • Rafiq — shipping to Play production

v1.45 of the offline-first Islamic companion app: a full Hijri calendar tab, month jumping, and sunset-aware date turnover.

  • Nafis — closed testing on Google Play

Multi-asset price and portfolio tracking. This round was a scroll-performance pass — the trend chart no longer repaints on every frame.

  • Masareef — Play alpha

Offline-first spending tracker. App lock, a privacy pass, and an Android permission audit that finally cleared Play submission.

  • Reely — Next.js 16 rebuild

The streaming guide moved to React 19 on Cloudflare Workers via OpenNext, with shared filter, genre, and metadata layers underneath.

  • Freeby — invoicing for freelancers

Timer → invoice → paid in one flow. Latest work is instant UX: optimistic updates that revert on error, plus retry toasts.

Learning

  • React Native scroll performance

Chasing jank down to its cause — SVG repaints, list virtualisation, and how to actually measure a frame instead of guessing.

  • Play Store release engineering

Three apps on staged rollouts at once: versionCodes, closed vs alpha tracks, permission audits, and partial-failure recovery.

  • React 19 on the edge

Running Next.js 16 on Cloudflare Workers through OpenNext, and what Server Actions cost once there is no Node runtime.

Reading

  • Designing Data-Intensive Applications

Slowly working through the replication chapters.
